Lolo 2 is cool

I like Lolo – Heather

Editor: This is why I shouldn’t leave a wordpress window open to work on later.

Freakin’ Medusa Heads

Fact: Medusa Heads are the most villainous characters in video gaming. Proof: Castlevania and Lolo.

Surprisingly I have never played Rez. Due to this, I have always been under the impression that Rez was a difficult hardcore shooter. After playing it I’m surprised its relatively easy to get into, heck you don’t even move your character around. The bosses are pretty cool if a little drawn out. I’m glad I finally get to play the game, and I’m also glad I’m only paying $10 for the opportunity rather than $80.

I can’t see shit.

Rumble Roses XX is the game that made me definitively hate bloom lighting and overdone HDR. Sure it bothered me in other games but the loss of detail is so egregious in this case that I have to wonder if the developers need glasses. It is particularly disappointing as Rumble Roses has one of the better photo modes available in gaming right now. I think it may have been the first game on Live that allowed you to share pictures on Live. I would appreciate the ability to pull the pictures onto a PC and the Internet but at least there is some form of sharing.

Anyway this game would look many times better with a better lighting setup, because at times when the lighting is right the game looks amazing.

Guilty pleasure

Rumble Roses is my favorite wrestling game since Pro Wrestling on the NES. Responsive controls and animations make the game a pleasure to play, and I actually comprehend how to play the game unlike most of the wrestling games that have come out in the intervening… 15 years?

The breasts help keep my interest too.

Not a Ruby Master

I can’t get past the third level without dying. I’m impressed that this game is making me want to attempt a single credit run. The combination of a achievements, the game being awesome, and the goal seeming somwhat attainable, unlike most shooters, add to my urge to replay the game. Betterly.

Running through the stage a few times on challenge mode should help me improve.

Tap Water

Available free this week on XBLA, Undertow is a game that after playing it I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t spend the 800 points on it, but I’m glad I got it for free. The presentation is pretty solid for a XBLA game. Nice menus, everything loads and runs smoothly. Graphically its solid but not spectacular. Some neat particle effects here and there but nothing special, but at the same time nothing terrible either. Gameplay is somewhat simple but again, somewhat interesting. Its basically a side-scrolling Battlefield. Underwater. The sound is on the good side, very artificial but important beeps and cues for gameplay elements such as capturing control points and nice realistic harpoons impacting metal type sounds for the gunplay. A nice combination.

That said I have no freakin’ clue what is going on with the story. I don’t know what side I’m playing as or why everyone seems hell bent on drowning me. The writing is nearly as bad as at this site, and without being loveable like the intro to Symphony of the Night.

I feel like I’ve played this before…

The opening levels of Lolo 2 are really familiar. I have either watched someone play the game or played it myself recently, yet I don’t remember actually doing so. But hey my Wii is finally back online!

May?

I don’t like third person action games. I get bored with them quickly and they lose my attention quickly. Devil May Cry is no exception. The game controls pretty tightly, the graphics are solid with nice lighting and details, and rooms load quickly. But I don’t like it. Atomic combos and all.

Lap 2?

The Club is Project Gotham Racing but with guns. Seriously, you even have to do laps. It’s actually a very solid shooter, and I like the gameplay concept. That said, aesthetically the game doesn’t do anything for me. The menus and presentation are crisp, fast and stylish but running through a prison yard killing Random Guy with Shades #20 doesn’t make me want to play the game. Which is sad because it looks to be pretty sweet.
