Hopefully this works.

First off, I think I need to spruce this place up a bit so here is a picture:

Last Resort Laser

Secondly, I played a bit of cooperative Halo tonight. Level 4: The Storm. The middle of this level has one of my favorite moments in the game… driving a mongoose with a marine with an infinite number of rockets.

Freakin’ Wall

Two different sets of people invited me to games of Halo 3 at different points tonight. Fun times except for a bit of lag. If I shoot one more rocket into a wall that I don’t see because I’m zoomed in I might become somewhat perturbed. I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the autoupdate so I can bitch about new things not seeming fair.

Turn left!

Tonight featured a variety of games as I tried to find something to play with other people. Carcassonne was up first. Did horrible the first game and squeaked out a win though farmers at the end of the second game. I really like this game, and I think I would really not like it if I was playing the board game version. It seems much too easy to miss scoring oppertunities or on the other hand too difficult to keep track of what was already scored. I much prefer computers taking care of complex tasks such as counting.

Burnout Paradise is pretty. The crashes continue to impress me with their crumple zones and relatively realistic weight to the vehicles. Unfortunately the network mode was not working as desired put a damper on the evening since no one else could join in. I did finally beat the freakin’ Burning Route tonight. Taking the highway and jumping off at the last moment paid off.

Not the best night of Halo 3. Network conditions left a lot to be desired and most of the games were not really “good” games. I did get to play several custom racing maps which were entertaining. The loop-de-loop was the most esoteric and the double-level Foundry track was the most Nascar like with all its left turns. So yes I think I raced more in a FPS than a racing game.

Three.

Played 3-player coop Halo 3 on Level 3 tonight. Surprisingly the large brute/garage showdown was relatively stress free due to excellent sniping support from the top of the wall. We ran into much greater difficulties in the last vehicle -centric section which dissolved into a respawning mantrain of bodies. Oddly enough, OS X’s spell check does not recognize mantrain as a word. As usual with Halo I enjoyed the experience and hope to play more often in the future which likely won’t happen.

Gained the lead.

I’m debating if I should rant about the ineffectiveness of the ranking system, or the lack of tension lopsided teams provide, or how everyone vetoes everything except Slayer. But the core gameplay of Halo is so good that I can’t work up enough piss and vinegar to really delve too deep into any of these topics.

It likely helps that I played a series of really good games tonight.
